Pitzer College was named for benefactor, noted philanthropist and orange grower Russell K. Pitzer (1878-1978). Founded in 1963 as the sixth institution of The Claremont Colleges, Pitzer began as a residential liberal arts campus for women with a curricular emphasis in the social and behavioral sciences.
With approximately 1,000 students, Pitzer College is part of The Claremont Colleges – a unique consortium of five undergraduate colleges and two graduate institutions. The contiguous campuses share numerous programs and facilities. At Pitzer, students have access to all the resources of a major university while enjoying all the benefits of a liberal arts college experience and its personalized approach to education.

Student Affairs advances Pitzer’s Mission and Core Values by providing student-centered support services and an engaging co-curricular program. We are committed to the holistic development of students, challenging students to live with integrity, and empowering students to be active participants in their own experience.
Pitzer Hall houses 78 students. Rooms are double occupancy, with two rooms sharing an adjoining vanity, bathroom and shower. Common areas include a living room, eight study rooms, and laundry facilities. The first level of Pitzer Hall is the home of the Admission Office.
Atherton Hall houses 62 students. Rooms are double occupancy with two rooms sharing an adjoining vanity, bathroom and shower. Common areas include a living room, six study rooms, and laundry facilities. The first level of Atherton Hall is also home to the campus mail center, art studios, a music practice room, and the Lenzner Family Art Gallery.
Services we provide
The Gold Student Health & Wellness Center (GSC) includes a variety of amenities available to Pitzer students, faculty, staff members, alumni and their guests. The GSC also welcomes all community members from the Claremont Colleges to utilize gym and pool facilities free of charge.
There are over fifty active student organizations at Pitzer College. Recognized and funded by the Pitzer College Student Senate, our student organizations encompass a wide range of interests and welcome your participation. If you do not see an organization that you find interesting, you can always propose a new one.
Pitzer College is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). WASC is an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education.
