History
- Initially intended to train engineers for the industrial development of the North of France, the School has never ceased to adapt its teaching to new economic, societal and environmental challenges.
- 1894 : birth of the Institute of Chemistry in the Faculty of Sciences; he competes for the License, and delivers a Certificate of Applied Chemistry open to free auditors

The ENSCL offers 3 areas of study in the 3rd year of the engineering cycle: chemistry and sustainable processes for industry, formulation chemistry, optimization and reliability of materials.

Research
The ENSCL supervises two research laboratories associated with the CNRS: UCCS (Solid Catalysis and Chemistry Unit) and UMET (Materials and Transformation Unit).

The activity of the ENSCL engineer covers all branches of industry.

- The international relations office proposes, defines and implements the international policy fixed in the establishment contract.
- The Student Office is made up of a Council and several Poles which manage the associative life of the school.

- The welcome club welcomes foreign students and integrates them into school life, while providing them with support with administrative procedures.
- The “Chimie Lille Études” junior-enterprise is an association operating like a small enterprise. Composed of engineering students, it offers companies the opportunity to carry out studies in the field of chemistry.
- Ingénieur Sans Frontières Nord is a humanitarian association bringing together students from ENSCL and École Centrale de Lille. Its members make students aware of international solidarity and set up projects to help developing countries.
