Afyon Kocatepe University

History

Afyon Kocatepe University was founded in 1992, and started the educational activities at 1992-1993 academic year. However, the history of university goes back to 1974 with Afyonkarahisar Finance and Accounting High School, a branch of Eski?ehir Economics and Trading Sciences Academy.

Education

The educational activities consist of many different fields including;

• Health education (Faculty of medicine, School of Health, Vocational College of Health Services),• Engineering education (Engineering Faculty and Faculty of Technology and many programs in several vocational schools),• Economics and Administrative sciences education (Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Bolvadin School of Applied Sciences and many programs in several vocational schools), • Tourism Education (Faculty of Tourism) • Veterinary medicine education, • Teacher education (Education Faculty and School of Physical Training and Sports)• Art education (Faculty of Fine arts and State Conservatory).

Research

Research and graduate education is one of the most substantial issues for Afyon Kocatepe University. These activities are carried out at graduate institutes (Graduate Institute of Science and Engineering, Graduate Institute of Health Sciences, and Graduate Institute of Social Sciences). The university also consists of several research groups in the faculties as well as the research laboratories.

My Journey Through the Challenges of Psychology

Studying Psychology has been a deeply personal and challenging journey for me. My biggest hurdle was the language barrier. It was incredibly disheartening to study tirelessly only to receive low grades because I struggled to express my understanding in a different language. However, I never grew bored of learning. Even when I faced setbacks, I remained confident that I could finish this degree successfully. My dedication often led me to the library, where I spent hours reading every piece of material, even when my grades didn't immediately improve. I was so proactive that I frequently asked my professors for extra assignments to help me master the subjects. While some professors were very supportive, others were more difficult to approach, despite my repeated attempts to seek guidance on their subjects. There were moments of deep exhaustion where the academic pressure led me to take a semester break. That "healing" period was crucial; it allowed me to regain my mental clarity and return with a renewed spirit. My love for Psychology is what keeps me going I find the core subjects absolutely fascinating and they recharge my energy, though I must admit that Statistics remains a significant challenge for me! All this hard work finally culminated in a proud milestone,I recently earned an 80 in my Introduction to Psychology course. This is the first time I have seen my persistence truly reflected in my results, and it has only strengthened my resolve to keep moving forward.

Student services

Student Council was organized to help improving the education, health, sports and cultural needs of associate, undergraduate or graduate students; to support the rights of students; to raise sensitiveness to national interests; to establish an effective communication between the students and administrative departments; to present educational expectations and requests of students to administrative departments and to enable the participation in giving decisions.

Housing services

There are two main campuses in the city center. The Ahmet Necdet Sezer (One of the former president of Turkish Republic, raised at Afyonkarahisar) Campus is used for faculties and research centers while the Ali Çetinkaya (One of the politicians having important roles at the establishment of the Turkish Republic) Campus is used for Health Education units and University Hospital.

Medical services

Medico-Social Centre serving under the Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports is the first place when the students studying at our university have any health problems. When they are admitted to the centre their first treatment is done, if necessary they are sent to our university hospital, Ahmet Necdet Sezer Training and research Hospital. There are three medical service centres in the university, Medico-Social Centre within Ahmet Necdet Sezer Training and research Hospital, Ali Çetinkaya Campus, Ahmet Necdet Sezer Campus.

Campus life

The problems of accommondation of Afyon Kocatepe University were almost completely solved by private students hostels and hostels belonging to state credit and Hostels instituations. In Afyonkarahisar, There is a hostel, belonging to state. Credit and hostels institutions, with the capacity of 870 girls and 1080 boys, the total capacity is 1950 students. In the students' hostel, there are rooms for 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 persons and a restaurant, cafe as well as a theatre, billiards and internet rooms with table tennis and chess corners which the students can play to spend time well.

Sports facilities

Our students can make sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, athleticism, gymnastics, step, mountain climbing, boxing, wrestling, taekwondo and karate. They can join the teams and tournaments.
