From January 1 2017, Bergen University College, Sogn og Fjordane University College and Stord/Haugesund University College have merged to form Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.

The ambition is to build stronger and more solid academic and research environments who will interact nationally and internationally. The aim is to become a visible actor on the international higher education arena through increased international cooperation and engagement in externally funded projects within education and research.

Strategic R&D activities are organized in programmes to promote high quality research in priority research areas. The centres act as driving forces in the development of the broader research programs. They also promote research-based education in all of the study programs offered at campus Bergen.

An important purpose of our research is to further develop and improve professional conduct, tasks and procedures which are relevant for our professional study programs. Our research includes studies of innovation, didactic practice and generation of new knowledge, and how implementation of new knowledge is handled by the professions.

Student Life

Campus life

About 30.000 students from over 110 countries make Bergen an international student city. Surrounded by 7 mountains and seated near the fjords, Bergen is one of the most picturesque cities in Norway.

The students choose to study in Førde because of the high quality study programmes on offer, the fantastic nature and vibrant student life.

Short distances between dorms, campus, activities and nature is the ideal recipe for utilizing your day as a student at Campus Sogndal.

Sports facilities

Sogndal has a variety of options for indoor exercise. The fitness center “Idrettssenteret” has locations both at Campus and in the town centre. Idrettssenteret has an extensive variety of group lessons, as well as a 2000 sq. feet gym and a squash hall.

In the sports hall Sognahallen you may climb "The Wall", one of Norway's best indoor climbing walls. If you like swimming, you can go for a swim in the public swimming pool.

Not all universities have their own beach, park, student house, gym, sports arena and soccer field, but you will find all of this at Stord campus. And if you fancy a game of golf, the golf course is only 500 metres away.

Student clubs

In Bergen there is much to experience, regardless of whether you prefer culture or nature.

Campus Bergen has its own athletic union with subgroups for outdoor and indoor football, volleyball, badminton, ski/off-piste, running and more.
