When you first arrive on the Island, go to our front office where you will find information about our university and campus.
The front office is located on the ground floor of Area 1 in the main building (Room 2A).
There are two options:
The VIU Library is located on the first floor in the main building. The scope of the library is to provide all the necessary and useful materials which may be required by the students and the professors who come to VIU for courses, seminars and to participate in VIU conferences. The library collection has been gradually increasing over the last 15 years of activity and nowadays it offers around 4000 items, including books, periodicals, movies and music cds. All the materials are first classified according to the Dewey Decimal System and then divided and arranged according to three main subjects: History (in particular the history of Venice), Social Sciences and Economics.
Computer facilities, PC Room and Mac Lab
The PC room is located on the first floor of Zone 7 and is open to all VIU students and professors, 24 hours a day. Ask your program coordinator for an access card (a € 5 deposit is required).All PCs are connected to the Internet, and students can access online Venetian library catalogues, Duke-on-line and other online information resources.
VIU also has a highly advanced Apple Mac Computer Lab (first floor, Zone 7) for integrating digital technologies in the academic courses.The 3D modeling, visualization, and mapping technologies installed enable students to engage with questions of change over time and dynamic process in urban and rural environments.The programs available include 3D modeling using Google SketchUp, 3D acquisition using Photogrammetry, interactive mapping with Google Earth, Scalar, and the basics of ARCgis related to Google Earth.
The Island of San Servolo is an oasis in a unique urban setting, 10 minutes by boat from Piazza San Marco. Students can study, work, and relax in a peaceful park spread across 12 scenic acres with a panoramic view of Venice. In addition to this, students will have an extraordinary opportunity to study under conditions that are significantly different from their normal day-to-day studying environment. Professors, scholars and students from all over the world will be given the chance to interact and to share their experiences and knowledge.
On campus you can find a multi-sports game court for basketball, volleyball, soccer and tennis.Sports grounds are open from April to October, from 9 am to 11 pm.
