The hdpk is a leading private university for the creative industries, situated in one of Germany´s creative hubs: in Berlin. The study programs cover both artistic and technological aspects as well as practical management issues and media theory. The curriculum focuses on the music and media industries (apart from film and television).

The hdpk opened in April 2010 as a private University of Applied Sciences and is approved by the Berlin Senate Department for Education, Science and Research.


The hdpk currently offers Bachelor programmes in Media Design, Media Management, Musical Production as well as Audio Design. As of autumn 2016, this range will be complemented by a variety of new study courses:

B.A. Creative Industries Management and B.Mus. Popular Music, as well as Master courses for Event Design & Management and Media Psychology.

With own music studios and audio cinemas the hdpk provides students with a unique learning environment. At the private, state-certified academy in Berlin 560 students from 30 countries are currently training for professions in the creative sector.

Student services

The Student Office is the central contact point for students at the hdpk. They provide assistance with issues relating to course participation and marks awarded.

The Student Office is responsible for the following:

  • initial queries and issues
  • receiving notifications relating to administrative matters (e.g. exams, grants, de-matriculation)
  • changes of address
  • the completion/collection of certificates
  • Submitting evidence of health insurance and declaring the loss of a student travel pass or ID card

Housing services

The housing market offers a wide range of situations, and the Berlin StudierendenWERK (office of student activities) can support in in finding rooms in special student Dormitories. No matter what you’re looking for, shared flat or your own four walls, accommodations in Berlin are affordable (compared to other metropolitan regions).Many of our students use Internet platforms for finding rooms; asking your fellow students may still be one of the best strategies.

Library services

The hdpk library is the academic lending library for students and staff at the SRH Hochschule der populären Künste (hdpk).

Its collection is orientated towards the reading requirements of courses offered by the hdpk and includes textbooks, specialist literature, sheet music, periodicals, magazines, CDs and DVDs.

Student Life

Student clubs

The Student Parliament (StuPa) serves to provide a voice for hdpk students with regard to University affairs. It comprises not just course representatives from each semester of each course, but also all those who, alongside their studies, want to get involved with how the University is run – and make a contribution for the benefit of all.


  • The Science Council has accredited the SRH Hochschule der populären Künste (hdpk) in Berlin for the maximum accreditation period of 5 years. This accreditation confirms that teaching and research complies with recognized scientific standards.
  • In December 2014, the degree programmes Musical Production, Media Management and Media Design were re-accredited by the ZEvA, for seven years.
  • In 2015, both Master programmes Event Design & Management und Media Psychology have successfully undergone concept accreditation by the ZEvA.
