StudyPortal: A Door to My Future
My experience at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Ghana was genuinely transformative. Studying Information Technology over four years exposed me to everything from cybersecurity and AI to mobile app development and data science. I didn't just learn theory; I built real systems, competed in national hackathons, and graduated with first-class honors (CGPA: 3.78). What I really liked was how the program pushed practical learning. Courses like Mobile Application Development, Advanced Information Security, and Data Science gave me skills I applied immediately in real projects and competitions. Winning 2nd place at a departmental hackathon and placing in the top 5 out of 50 teams at another while still a student showed me the program was preparing us for the real world. What could be improved is access to international exposure and research funding. Brilliant students in Ghana often lack the networks and financial resources to take their work further; that gap is real. Overall, UENR gave me a strong academic and technical foundation. I have not yet started my master's, but I have applied to GISMA University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam, Germany, and have received an unconditional offer letter to study MSc Data Science, AI, and Digital Business. Professionalism, Constructive and Detailed Modules
My overall experience with module content of Gisma University has been positive, it is well structured and comprehensive. However, I observed that some of professors seem to just read what is on the power point without providing deeper explanations, examples or practical insights. This sometimes makes it difficult for us students to fully understand the subject matter. Sometimes they are just sitting there and reading it(like we can also read it) so its very annoying thinking that we are paying expensive tuition fees but not gaining a deeper understanding.
