History
Hirosaki University was established in the former castle town of Hirosaki in 1949. It is a national university and is located in Aomori Prefecture, situated at the northern end of Honshu Island.

Research
The Shirakami-Sanchi as a World Natural Heritage site is an area of a pristine ecosystem with its rich flora and fauna found in primeval Japanese beech forests. Research into its ecosystem and genetic properties should be pursued further.While the Japanese beech forests in the area are feared to shrink because of the global warming, it is becoming all the more important to examine the gravity of the global warming and to accumulate data of weather changes.

Student services
The aims of the University Hall are to promote closer relationships among the students and the staff, and to improve their welfare. The hall can be used for student's extracurricular activities.
On the first floor of Campus students will find a cafeteria and a bookstore run by the University Co-op and a privately-run barbershop. On the second and third floor there are a lounge, a lobby, a coffee shop, a music room and a recreation room and assembly rooms for extracurricular activities.
Housing services
The Hirosaki University International House is established to provide foreign students and researchers with accommodarions and facilities to promote and contribute to international exchange in the fields of education and research at the University.
Library services
The Hirosaki University Library was established in May 1949, and now consists of the Main Library, the Medical Branch. The total number of volumes is about 830,000. In addition to books and serials for study and research, electronic materials such as DVD databases and online facilities which include 8,800 titles of online journals are also available.
ICT services
The Center for Computer and Communications is located behind the Faculty of Science and Technology. This four storied building is equipped with about 300 personal computers and a variety of software providing students access to the Internet and allowing superior information processing capability. In order to use the facility you need to get permission through your academic adviser.
Medical services
First Aid
- When you need any first aid treatment for headaches, fevers, stomachaches, injuries or the like, come to the center. If you are seriously ill or injured, you will be given appropriate advice, and recommendations as to where to go for treatment.
- You can see the doctor and nurses any time during office hours. If you want to see the counselor, make an appointment.
Campus life
Hirosaki University provides housing for any student having difficulties commuting.
