Founded on 20th May 1955, Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) is the fourth oldest university in Turkey, and the first university established outside Istanbul and Ankara. After a period of 8 years, on 19th September, 1963, the faculties of Natural Sciences, Civil Engineering-Architecture, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and Forestry.

Learn more about the Global Student Satisfaction AwardsThe university has dormitories both on the main campus and other campuses with a capacity of about 5000 students. Such dormitories include rooms shared by 2 to 4 students, and are aimed at housing students who cannot afford to pay for better accommodation. Students who do not want to stay in dormitories can select to stay in private accommodation in apartment blocks, located just outside the main campus, only 10 minutes walk from the university. In these apartments, students get a room with bathroom of their own and share the kitchen with 3 to 5 others.
Faik Ahmet Barutçu Library:
The main library situated on the main campus is equipped with all facilities a student may be in need of. It has subscriptions to major on-line data bases with hundreds of periodicals in different fields, as well as on-line books and thesis. The number of registered packages increases steadily based on the requests of the academic units.
Karadeniz Technical University meets all the treatment expenses of those who are in need and who don’t have any health insurance. In case of emergency, all students, regardless of their origin, are treated in the Health Centre on the campus.
Karadeniz Technical University is one of the most distinguished institutions in Turkey offering its students all possible opportunities regarding social, cultural and sports facilities. Located on the main campus by the sea, the Vocational School of Tourism and Hotel Management has a guest hall, an olympic swimming pool, a restaurant, pastry, cafe, tennis, basketball and volleyball fields.
