Quito, the capital city of Ecuador, is surrounded by the Andes Mountains with an elevation of 9,350 feet (2,800 meters above sea level), and is the highest capital city in the world housing the administrative, legislative and judicial function
Quito´s population is around 2,197,698 according to the last census (2001).
The Historic Center of Quito has one of the largest, least-altered and best-preserved historic centers in the Americas. Quito is the first World Cultural Heritage Sites declared by UNESCO in 1978. The central square of Quito is located about 25 kilometers (16 mi) south of the equator; the city itself extends to within about 1 kilometer (0.62 mi) of zero latitude. A monument and museum marking the general location of the equator is known locally as la Mitad del Mundo (the middle of the world), to avoid confusion, as the word Ecuador is Spanish for equator.
Quito has a subtropical highland climate. Because of its elevation and its proximity to the equator, Quito has a fairly constant cool climate, with spring-like weather year-round. The average temperature at noon is 18.7 °C (65.7 °F) with a normal night-time low of 9.3 °C (48.7 °F). The annual average temperature is 14.0 °C (57.2 °F).

Food Engineering A Blend of Science and Innovation
Studying food engineering has been a hands-on and enriching journey. I loved working on real industry challenges, especially developing products from byproducts like coffee mucilage and cacao waste. The mix of science, technology, and innovation kept me engaged. More emphasis on emerging food trends would be great, but overall, it has been a rewarding experience that shaped my passion for sustainable food solutions.
My study experience inside USFQ
What I really liked about this master degree was that is practical and give you usefull tools to apply for daily engeineering challenges. I enjoyed a lot taking lessons from specialiced teachers on the seismic field from other countries and be able to compare seismic technologies. What can be improved is that the most especific lessons should not be like an intense course and take more time to investigate and study this subjects.
The Only Liberal Arts College in Ecuador
I've had a great time so far. The teachers are really what make the university stand out, most of them are so friendly and passionate about their teaching that they make me motivated to keep pushing myself to grow. Campus is intimate and very pretty and the American-style liberal arts college model offers students the chance to take classes from any other faculty, as well as having the chance to complete a minor or a dual degree in anything. I'm currently enrolled as a Clinic Psychology major with a minor in Contemporary Music and I'm grateful to be able to have this distinction because I'm looking forward to become a Music Therapist in the future.
