Located in the beautiful and historical city of Changsha, with YueluMountain to the south and XiangRiver to the east, HUC enjoys convenient transportation and beautiful environment. Established in 1949, HUC covers a total area of 1,340.61 Chinese Mu, of which a construction size of over 470,000 square meters. HUC has over 100 million Yuan worth of teaching facilities and equipments, and is adequately equipped with a library collection of over 2 million volumes. Among the 1,166 faculty members of HUC, there are 134 professors, 267 associate professors and 170 scholars with PhD degrees. There are 1 State Council member of the discipline appraisal group; 1 director of The National Nature Science Foundation for Innovative Research groups; 1 has been honored with financial support from National Outstanding Youth Fund; 1 director is supported by Program for Cheongkong Scholars and Innovative Research Team; 1 Outstanding Social Scientist; 1 member of National MBA Administration Committee; 1 academician of the Committee of Humanities and Social Sciences; 9 experts receiving the State Council Special Subsidies; 2 National New Century Talent Project Scholars; 3 scholars of Ministry of Education New Century Outstanding Talents Support Plan; 2 Hunan Provincial Social Scientists; 1 Hunan Provincial Outstanding Young Social Scientists; 19 scholars of Hunan Provincial “121 Project”; and 3 members of Ministry of Education Higher Educational Institutions Teaching Affairs Committee. HUC consists of 17 schools, 42 research institutes and one of the first groups of “independent college” approved by Ministry of Education – BeijinCollege. HUC has 3 first-order disciplines authorized to confer Master's degree, 2 Professional master degree authorized to confer Master’s degree. HUC has a variety of Key Subjects, Key Research Bases, Demonstration Bases, Teaching Teams and so on of Provincial and National Levels. There are over 20,000 students on campus.

Following its motto of “Sincerity, Trustworthiness, Sureness and Innovation”, HUC is based on the principle of cultivating talents and it is centered on teaching and learning experience. HUC aims at producing graduates who have strong knowledge foundation, comprehensive qualities, practical abilities, market awareness and creativity. HUC recruits students from 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. The employment rate of graduates keeps being over 94% in recent years, making contributions to local economic and social development. HUC is having more international exchanges and has established cooperative education programs with over 20 universities and research institutes the Netherlands, Ireland, The United States, Canada, Australia and The United Kingdom.
