History
Founded in 1938 as Agricultural College of State-Run Yunnan University which later gained its independence as Kunming Agricultural and Forestry College (KGFC) in 1958, Yunnan Agricultural University (YAU) was officially established in 1972 after KGFC merged with Yunnan Agricultural and Working University in 1971. The university was authorized to award master’s degree and doctoral degree in 1983 and in 2003 respectively, and established a center for post-doctoral studies in 2007.
Education
The university provides 63 bachelor’s degree programs for undergraduate students, of which 6 are state-level and 7 provincial-level characteristic specialties, and 8 are provincial-level key specialties.
Research
There are 4 national research institutions and centers at Yunnan Agricultural University(YAU): the National Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center for Agriculture Majors, the National Engineering Research Center for Agricultural Biodiversity Technology and Application, and the National Pu’er Tea Accreditation Center.

University Ranking
Library services
Yunnan Agricultural University Library was established in 1958 and the independent building was completed in 1986 occupying 6185.65 square meters. It consists of 3 reading rooms with 8 main shelves and 5 assisting shelves, hosting more than 800 reading seats.
ICT services
YNAUL focuses on the application of modern information technology. In 1995, we completed the construction of Library Computer Local Area Network, which became an important network information service site in campus, and achieved the interconnection with campus network. From 1996 it has been managed with all-round computer business. In 2000, it upgraded to ILAS II integrated management system, and updated again as the Jin Pan (Golden Disk) Library Integrated Management System in 2010.
Campus life
The campus covering an area of 2,161.65 Chinese mu, and the facilities area being over 511,000 square meters, the university enjoys a collection of 1.3257 million volumes of books in its two libraries, with instruments and equipment for teaching and scientific research worth of 151 million Chinese yuan.
Since 2000, the university has been awarded over 300 times by international and domestic organizations: a first prize for scientific research by FAO, a prize for outstanding science by CGIAR, a prize for science and technology progress by Ho Leung and Ho Lee Foundation, a second prize of the national technology invention, and so on.
