Founded in 1958, Dalian Polytechnic University (DPU) was one of the four earliest institutes of light industry in China. Located in the beautiful coastal city of Dalian, DPU covers an area of 1064 mu, with an built-up area of 480,000. Over the past half century, six major disciplines have been developed in a harmonious way, including engineering which is our key discipline, science, art, literature, management, and economics.

About
DPU aims at cultivating professional talents in the various fields of light industry, including textile processing, food science, art etc. The university is authorized to confer bachelor, master, and doctorate degrees. DPU has 47 bachelor's degree programs, 13 first-class master's degree programs, mainly in the areas of engineering, science, literature, and management discipline, 3 first-class doctorate degree programs, in Textile Science and Engineering, Light Industrial Technology and Engineering, Foodstuff Science and Engineering. DPU has a teaching faculty of 958 teachers, of whom 141 are professors and 248 are associated professors.

Library services
Founded in October 1958, DPU Library was originally named Library of Shenyang Institute of Light Industry. At the end of 1970, it was moved to Dalian city and named Library of Dalian Institute of Light Industry; it was renamed Library of Dalian Polytechnic University in March, 2007. After more than fifty years’ development and construction, DPU Library’s scale has been enlarged continuously, the expenditure on books has been increased year by year and the operating condition has been improved constantly.
Student Life
Currently, there are 65 students’ clubs and associations of different areas including art, culture, sports, scientific innovation, volunteer and life. They can fit your needs for learning Chinese cultures and making friends. If you are interested in learning Chinese language and cultures, you could join the association of public speaking, club of traditional Chinese cultures, club of calligraphy, and association of tourism and culture. If you are good at singing and dancing, you could join university’s chorus, club of dancing, club of music. If you are a big fan of sports, you could join club of badminton and club of tennis. If you are a art lover, you could join club of reading, club of photography, and New Green Movie Studio. If you would like to make contributions to international communication, you could join association of international communication, which is led by International Office and Students’ Affairs Office. The association is composed of six subdivisions to organize various types of activities such as “One-to-One” language learning partnership, cultural lectures, and extracurricular activities.
