History
In 1978 Camden struggled to provide local young people with adequate training in the performing arts and media. With this in mind, our current CEO of 35 years set up Wac Arts, with 12 students. Now we have over 1,500 students benefiting from our media and arts training every year. For over 35 years we have watched thousands of children escape the poverty trap and go on to have successful careers.
Education
Wac Arts has been driven by the needs of children and young people for nearly 40 years. Working with hundreds of young people aged 5-26 annually; Wac Arts provides weekend, evening and holiday programmes as well as unique Full-time performing arts course and a vibrant disability and inclusion programme. Wac Arts is a creative hub where young people build confidence, artists connect, and other arts and cultural organisations thrive.
Career
- Our mission is to be a sustainable arts-inspired educational safe haven for generations of young people, providing high quality training at low cost in fantastic facilities. For over 35 years we have watched thousands of children escape the poverty trap and go on to have successful careers as youth workers, teachers, lawyers, administrators, and entrepreneurs.

Student services
Students at Wac Arts participate in activities based on the level of their artistic ability, rather than their age. A unique feature of the Wac Arts approach, children and young people develop at their own pace, benefiting from tailored creative packages and targeted activities. The range and extent of Wac Arts programmes mean that young people are often able to progress from entry-level sessions to professional level qualifications wholly within the organisation. The continuity and security this provides can be especially valuable to many Wac Arts students.
Campus life
Fully accessible and blending Victorian, Edwardian and 21st century architecture, the Old Town Hall is an eclectic and stimulating base. It has a range of rooms and state-of-the-art facilities to support our creative curriculum. As well as a theatre space and dance studios, we have ceiling height for aerials and trampolining, music rooms, a drama studio, the sensory pod, a recording studio, video and music technology suites, changing rooms, a one-to-one fitness and pilates space, and much more.
Student clubs
Firmly located at the heart of the community, Wac Arts also houses a variety of charities and organisations including the University of the Third Age (U3A) and Akademi South Asian Dance UK to form a vibrant community arts hub. Within the limitations of a learning and leisure environment for hundreds of children and young people each week, we are committed to be as ‘open access’ as possible. Our Artists in Residence scheme (AIR) nurtures artists from different disciplines and is regularly open for public viewings. We also offer a range of public classes and performances, rooms for wedding and function hire, and everyone is welcome to visit the Old Town Hall by appointment and to have a look around!
Accreditation
Our Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre is the first fully accredited degree-equivalent programme to give equal weight to training in drama, dance and singing and to actively promote non-western art forms.
