NPU was originally established as the State Northwest Institute of Engineering in Hanzhong in 1938. The Institute was an amalgamation of Beiyang Institute of Engineering, the Engineering College of Peking University, the Engineering College of Northeast University and Jiaozuo Institute of Engineering.
NPU adheres to the motto " Loyalty，Integrity，Courage and Perseverance" while carrying forward the spirit of " Strong Preparation，Diligent Effort，Practical Attitude，and Creative Innovation". NPU has put its roots down in the west; dedicated itself to national defense and written several “firsts” into the history of the PRC. Now NPU will continue to pioneer new pathways into the future in the process of building a world first-class university and world first-class disciplines.
Since 11thFive-year-Plan the university has undertaken over 10,000 research projects, including state key projects, weapons and equipment model projects, national defense research and pre-research plans, State 863 and 973 plans, NSFC projects etc. Research funding has increased each year to make NPU one of the leading research universities in China. During this period the university has won 328 national and provincial science and technology awards, including 3 Second Prizes in the State Natural Science Awards, 9 Second Prizes in the State Technological Invention Awards, 3 First and 9 Second Prizes in the National Science and Technology Progress Awards, together with 184 National Defense Technology Awards.
On the long march towards establishing a world first-class university and world first-class disciplines, NPU is drawing on its deep moral, intellectual and spiritual roots so that it can serve the major strategic needs of the country and foster China’s modernization and construction while promoting world scientific and technological progress.

Medical Laboratory Assistant (Biolab Laboratory) Sanaa
my experience was generally positive, especially in terms of practical learning and hands on training. the lecturers are approachable and supportive, preparing you well for real world situations. Overally i recommend the institution to students looking for practical, career oriented education.
Not bad but food options need to improve, there is more than 10,000 students, but there is currently only two food courts, resulting in packed food courts. Ngee ann polytechnic offers many bonding activities, club and societies, and there are even free programmes for students to take part in. In my case, I took the Korean module for free and it span over a course of 1.5 years, which I will be able to graduate with a minor in Korean Language apart from my diploma. I'm really grateful for the educational opportunities offered in my school.

The Alumni Association of Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) is dedicated to build a network among the alumni around the world, as a bridge between the university and the alumni, providing a wide range of opportunities, services and resources. NPU Alumni Association was formally founded in September 2003, approved by the Bureau of Shaanxi Provincial Civil Affairs.
The NPU library was established by combining the library of the former Northwest Institute of Engineering with that of the former Xi'an Institute of Aeronautics. In 1956, the library was moved from Nanjing to Xi'an. In 1970, the Department of Aeronautics of Harbin Institute of Military Engineering joined with NPU along with its books.
NPU has two campuses:The Youyi Campus is located just opposite the historic West Market in Xi'an that marks the terminus of the ancient Silk Road. The Chang'an Campus is located at the foot of the majestic Qinling Mountains to the south of the city, and offers a purpose-built center for study and research with state-of-the-art facilities enhanced by an award-winning library and landscaped gardens with lakeside walks.
NPU organizes colorful sports activities for students,possessing a grand General Assembly for Students' Sports and 16 Individual Athletic Associations. Each year, besides the sports cultural festival and college student's sports meet, the school also holds various sports competitions.
