History
In 1849 the Dutch government established an institute of higher education for medicine. In January 1851 the school was officially named Dokter-Djawa School (School for Javanese Doctors). This institute of higher education specialised in medicine, especially for the education of doctors.
Education
After undergoing a change of name at the end of the 19th century, or in 1898, the name Dokter-Djawa School was change to School tot Opleiding van Indische Artsen (School of Medicine for Indigenous Doctors) or also known as STOVIA . For 75 years STOVIA provided the best education for medical doctor candidates in Indonesia, before it was closed in 1927. However, another School of Medicine was established along with four other institutes of higher education in a number of cities in Java.

A Solid Foundation for a Mechanical Engineer
My overall study experience as a Mechanical Engineering student was highly satisfying and formative. The programme provided a strong foundation in core engineering principles such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials engineering, and mechanical design, while strengthening analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. Through laboratory work, group projects, and technical assignments, I learned how to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world engineering challenges. Beyond the technical curriculum, I developed a growing interest in economics by exploring topics such as carbon pricing in Indonesia, where I examined how economic instruments can support energy transition and emissions reduction. I also took courses in entrepreneurship and project management, which enhanced my understanding of business decision-making, resource allocation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This academic experience has prepared me well for advanced studies and motivated me to pursue further education with an integrated perspective that bridges engineering, economics, and management.
Affordable Terengganu Campus Life
This university is just good and I like the environment too even though it is far away from my home. The facilities here also not that bad with good wifi connection. For those who are not used with food in Terengganu need to adapt with it. The lecturers are also nice and good. If you are stress with your studies you can go to the beach nearest to the Gong Badak Campus and you can find there :)
Transformative and Challenging Journey
My overall study experience at the university has been highly rewarding and intellectually stimulating. The academic environment encourages critical thinking, independent research, and practical problem-solving. I particularly appreciated the strong emphasis on analytical skills and the integration of theory with real-world applications. Courses were structured to progressively build competence, and assessments were designed to test both conceptual understanding and applied knowledge. The learning resources, including digital platforms and academic databases, were accessible and supportive of self-directed study. The diversity of students also created a collaborative and engaging academic atmosphere where discussions were insightful and enriching. However, there is room for improvement in administrative responsiveness and scheduling coordination, especially during peak academic periods. Streamlining communication channels and providing clearer academic guidance at the beginning of each semester would enhance the overall student experience. In summary, my journey has been transformative, academically rigorous, and personally motivating. It has strengthened both my technical expertise and my confidence as a learner and future professional.
