The John Felice Rome Center in Italy offers an American undergraduate college experience in the heart of Western Europe. Students choose from more than 40 academic courses each semester and live together to form a tight-knit community in one of Europe's largest and most captivating capital cities with considerable cultural and religious importance for more than 2,000 years.

History

The campus opened its doors in the spring of 1962 as the Loyola University Chicago Rome Center for Liberal Arts.

Education

Over the course of four decades, the John Felice Rome Center has established itself as Italy's premier study-abroad program. Over 200 students from dozens of universities across the United States come here each semester seeking a full-immersion learning experience that promises to energize, enrich, and expand their horizons.

Research

Office of Research Services assists faculty and students at the Lake Shore and Water Tower campuses with externally funded research, training, and public service projects.

Housing services

The JFRC supports an atmosphere in the residence halls which balances academic pursuit with social attitudes. Experience has shown that the success of this policy depends upon a spirit of cooperation and understanding among all members of the JFRC community.All students are housed in the comfortable residential area of the John Felice Rome Center and in a local Italian hotel.Our traditional residence hall offers double-room occupancy with community bathrooms. All rooms are fully furnished with a bed, closet, desk, and chair for every student. Rooms also include a refrigerator, sink, and ceiling fan.

Library services

The Information Commons (IC) opened in January 2011, completing Phase I of the Insieme per il futuro campaign to renovate the JFRC. The IC is a model of energy efficiency and sustainable development. This facility is one of the most technologically advanced libraries in Rome, an appropriate home for one of the largest collection of English books in the city.

ICT services

The JFRC provides computer stations for its students. All are connected with the Internet, and those in the computer labs and information commons are accessible 24 hours a day. Students should bring a USB flash drive to save all of their documents. Students can print to local computers in the labs. All students will receive a printer card with €7 already loaded on it.

Medical services

Your health and well-being are important to us at the John Felice Rome Center. The tabs on the left indicate the many health and medical services the JFRC offers students. Please seek out a Student Life Assistant or member of the Student Life team/administration if you are not feeling well.

Campus life

The JFRC's multi-level, residential campus, which spans five acres in the upper Balduina district of Monte Mario, Rome's highest hill. The neighborhood is home to diplomats, senators, judges, and other distinguished families. By living on a campus in the center of a great neighborhood, you will have everything you need.Join 200 students on an American-style campus with full staff and amenities. This diverse, tight-knit community gathers for nights out at the opera, papal audiences, soccer matches, shared meals, and much more.

Sports facilities

Intramural Sports games are organized in either tournament or league style. Activities include softball, flag football, soccer, volleyball, dodgeball, badminton, cornhole (bags) basketball and racquetball. Intramural Sports are offered in the Fall and Spring Semesters.

Student clubs

Connect and socialize with Rambler alumni and friends, participate in community service days, build professional networks, serve as a community resource for newly relocated Ramblers or recent graduates, and help recruit students to Loyola University Chicago.

Accreditation

The University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and was first accredited in 1921.

A number of Loyola’s degree programs have specialized accreditation recognition, including Ph.D. programs in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, and school psychology, which are accredited by the American Psychological Association.
