History

The University Institute of Architecture of Reggio Calabria was founded on December 6, 1967, the core founding of the University of Reggio Calabria and was acknowledge by Decree of the President of the Republic on June 17, 1968.

Education

University of Reggio Calabria includes the following faculties : 

  • Faculty of Architecture, Engineering and Agriculture, with headquarters in Reggio Calabria,
  • Faculty of Law, Medicine and Surgery, based in Catanzaro
  • Faculty of Pharmacy based in Catanzaro.

Research

The University mission statement regarding the research is:

  • to improve the quality of research
  • to be more efficient and effective organization
  • to develop cooperation with enterprises and institutions in the area
  • to have access to new sources of financing assessing quality.

Reggio Calabria is the most populous city in Calabria (about 180,000 inhabitants). Located at the southern part of the region, on the eastern side of the Strait and facing the same city of Messina, which is closely linked. It, in fact, to an increasing extent as the Metropolitan Area of the Strait of integrated socio-economic area.

The modern University Campus is located on the hills of Feo di Vito , overlooking the harbour of Reggio Calabria. It is well positioned in relation to the city and includes the teaching and administrative facilities, 6 departments, 60 workshops and services for students, divided into 4 groups:
