The university was formerly known as the South China Institute of Technology, which was first founded in 1952 by merging the engineering schools and departments of several major universities and polytechnic institutes from five provinces, including Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi.
It is a public research-intensive university directly governed by the Chinese Ministry of Education. Located in the city of Guangzhou, a thriving metropolis in South China, the university today covers a total area of 391 hectares, consisting of three campuses: the Wushan Campus, the University Town Campus, and the Guangzhou International Campus.
South China University of Technology (SCUT) is a key and comprehensive research-oriented university under “Project 985” and “Project 211”. It bears outstanding scientific research capacity with 3 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 4 of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 foreign academician of Russian Academy of Engineering, 22 Chang Jiang Scholars and 30 receivers of the National Natural Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. It has 2,147 graduate instructors, including 749 doctoral supervisors.

I started my studies in South China University of Technology in Guangzhou, China in September 2026. Since I came I haven't felt any difficulties: teachers teach very well, students are friendly, campus is very convenient. In 6 months I improved my Chinese up to advanced level starting by 0. I want to tell thank you to all the teachers for their hard work.
It is very good university.I have a good expereience here.
The teaching materials are actually quite good and good, but the way the teachers teach can be said to be very boring and very difficult to understand. They teach in English and their English skills are hard to understand.
