Kempten University of Applied Sciences was established in 1978 with 82 students in a rented building. While the accession of Pope John Paul II, the first balloon crossing of the Atlantic and the last VW Beetle to be manufactured in Germany were making the national and international headlines, the breaking news in Allgäu was the new university and its ambitious target of 1.000 students.
In addition to the central area, Kempten University has six faculties. Providing the teaching range they are the university’s organizational basic units. Their study areas cover the competence areas of business & tourism management, computer science & multimedia, social & health sciences, and the engineering sciences.
