The Autonomous Nonprofit Organisation "Russian International Olympic University" (RIOU) was established on 21 October 2009 under the Memorandum of Understanding between the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee and the Russian Olympic Committee, and under a decree of the Russian Federation No 774.
RIOU is currently delivering 22 full-time and distance learning courses related to sports and the Olympic Movement, targeting various audiences within the sports industry in Russia and the wider world. The length of programmes ranges between 24 hours and 39 weeks.
RIOU's collaboration with the leading sports industry recruitment platform – globalsportsjobs.com – provides access to the best vacancies available in the market place (jobs in sport federations and commercial services, media and communications, event management, sponsorship, venue management).

RIOU's campus can accommodate up to 500 students at any one time with the number of annual graduates from regular and short courses. It can be rightly regarded not only as a key element of Sochi 2014's legacy, but also as a true centre of education, culture and business activity.
The RIOU Library has three electronic reading-rooms equipped with the RFID system. RFID makes search and circulation of books an easy process taking just minutes, thus allowing students and staff to work comfortably and effectively. An automated library terminal, book return unit, gate reader and electronic tagging enable self-issue/return of items and ensure the safety of the collections.
The RIOU campus can serve as a model of state-of-the-art building technologies and advanced environmental standards. This multifunctional complex was designed by acclaimed Russian architects Vladimir Korotayev (Grado architectural firm) and Vladimir Plotkin (Reserve production group), in conjunction with PRP Architects, a British architectural practice.
