UCT Prague was founded in 1952, its origins date back to 1807 when the first course in chemistry was delivered at Prague Polytechnic. A number of key figures of the history of chemistry relate to UCT Prague. Three figures are renowned in their fields: Vladimir Prelog, Nobel Prize winner, Otto Wichterle, inventor of contact lenses, and Emil Votoček, author of the Czech chemical nomenclature.


The four faculties and UCT School of Business provide studies in English in three-year BSc. programmes, two-year MSc. programmes, and four-year postgraduate Ph.D. programmes. UCT Prague is known for the depth and breadth of its educational and research activities in almost all branches of chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, environmental protection, materials sciences, and other chemistry-based fields of study.

Since 2020 the School of Business offers a unique blend of business science education with industry insight and social competencies.

Student services

UCT Prague Counselling and Career Centre also focuses on helping students with various disabilities and special needs. It offers diagnosis, consultation and other services specifically tailored to compensate for handicap (extra time at exams, compensatory tools, etc.) without compromising the quality of education.

Academy of Competencies is a special extracurricular program aimed at developing crucial skills beyond the scope of your field of study. The purpose is to help round out your education by providing courses that develop essentinal skills useful in your professional as well as the everyday life (public speaking, leadership, effective communication, and many others).

Housing services

UCT Prague provides international students accommodation in dormitories located in the southern part of Prague, in the district of Chodov.

There are two buildings, Sázava and Volha, which offer either double or triple rooms. Two neighbouring rooms share a bathroom, a toilet, and a small corridor with a fridge. They are equipped with basic furniture.International students living in the dormitories do not need to register with the Foreign Police to announce their arrival in the Czech Republic; this is taken care of by the Administration of UCT Prague Facilities.

Library services

The UCT Prague Central Library was one of the first chemistry-oriented institutions in Europe to install the electronic version of Chemical Abstracts on its local network.

It houses more than 100 000 volumes of books, handbooks, periodicals and other publications. Together with the access to electronic sources the UCT Central Library represents the largest chemical library in the Czech Republic

ICT services

UCT Prague maintains high standard computing facilities with a gigabit network. Computers are available to students in almost all of the several hundred laboratories and workrooms.

The UCT Prague provides students with an access to a lot of useful software (such as VPN, MS Office for Students, OneDrive, Mathematica, Maple, Autodesk) as well as scientific articles in paid peer-revieewd journals.

Medical services

All international students entering the Czech Republic for more than two months must undergo a health entrance examination which certifies one's state of good health for studying.

Campus life

UCT Prague has three buildings in Prague 6. The whole area together with the Theological Faculty of Charles University and the Czech Technical University form the Campus Dejvice.

Central Laboratories at the UCT Prague consist of 8 laboratories:

  • Laboratory of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy
  • Laboratory of Infra-Red (IR) and Raman Spectroscopy
  • Laboratory of Mass Spectrometry (MS)
  • Laboratory of Organic Elemental Analysis
  • Laboratory of X-RAY Difractometry
  • Laboratory of Thermal-Gravimetric Analysis (TGA)
  • Laboratory of Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) and Laboratory of Surface Analysis

The laboratories are equipped with a modern and top-level instrumentation.

UCT Prague cooperates with more than 100 universities and institutions worldwide. The whole community of students really took me by surprise, because I wasn't expecting such collegiality. Teachers are very helpful and willing to give advice to any question. Subjects are taught in a extremely interesting and detail-oriented way that catch the attention of even the most inattentive students. Also the whole campus has a very friendly and relaxing...

UCT, Prague is a very good university. There are a lot of things that I highly appreciate from my University. There is a very good collaboration between students and professor and the most important are the laboratories. The quality of laboratories in UCT is very satisfying.
