Helsinki Summer School

Helsinki Summer School is organised annually in August by the University of Helsinki. It is an international Summer School offering courses that cover a wide range of academic fields and multidisciplinary topics.

Master's Programmes



Helsinki Summer School uses Moodle online learning environment for distributing study materials, course programmes and general information. Some of the courses use it also for group work, learning assignments etc. Students will receive their credentials for Moodle before coming to Finland.

Housing services

  • Uni­home Pih­la­jamäki: studio flats only for one person (single occupancy only, no exceptions!) at Vuolukiventie 1, Helsinki. Bedding and towel included. Free Wi-Fi, sauna and laundry facilities.
  • Euro­hostel: both single and twin rooms available. Located at: Linnankatu 9, Helsinki. Bedding and towel included. Free Wi-Fi, coin-operated washing machines.

Library services

Students are issued a certificate of attendance allowing them to get a library card and borrow books from the Helsinki University Library.

ICT services

Helsinki Summer School students have access to the University’s Learning Centres and receive a IT username that allows unlimited access to the extensive computer facilities, and to use the wireless Internet connection at the University.

Student Life

Campus life

  • The Kumpula Campus, dedicated to research and teaching in the exact natural sciences, is perched on a verdant hill only four kilometres from the centre of Helsinki. 
  • The multidisciplinary Viikki Campus is located in the geographical centre of Helsinki, and has served as a campus area since 1946. The Viikki Campus is a hub of teaching and research in the biosciences, agriculture and forestry, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine. 

Sports facilities

Helsinki Summer School students are entitled to use the gym and participate in the group training sessions offered by the UniSport gyms and sports centres at the University of Helsinki for a student friendly price at any of the campuses.
