About

History

  • The higher educational establishment was founded in 1954 on the basis of Teacher Training Institute.
  • Its original name - Liepaja Pedagogical Institute.
  • The first campus - Baseina iela 9, Liepaja.
  • Concurrently with teacher training study programmes a broad spectrum of non-pedagogical study programmes has been offered since 1990.

Education

Liepāja University is the biggest higher education establishment in Kurzeme, it implements study programmes in six fields of studies out of the eight areas defined in Latvia.

Research

Liepaja University has a strongly developed further education trend. It was started as an idea for further education and development of our own graduates; now LiepU academic staff teaches people concerned in courses of different fields and intensity and in seminars with the help of professional development programmes and interest education.

Services

Housing services

Due to high demand, students should give the Foreign Affairs Department ample notice of their intension to live in student dormitories. International students are usually housed in shared rooms (2-3 persons) with a common kitchen, shower and toilets. 

Library services

The library was founded in 1954; its stocks contain 100 000 different items: 80 000 books, about 10 000 periodicals, collections of laws, dissertations, audio-visual and other materials. The library attends to the needs of the students of the University, its teaching staff and other personnel.

Student Life

Sports facilities

Non-traditional dance studio "Arabesque” offers classes at oriental dance, Spanish Flamenco dance and remedial gymnastics. They organize concerts, workshops, lectures. Studies mission is to introduce the participants to the body of foreign culture and art, with dances and various recovery systems, to expand the horizons of participants.

Student clubs

Latvian Student Christian Fraternity (LSCF) students - future teachers, journalists, medical doctors, pastors, CEOs, leaders, workers and others. Students are young people who make important choices during their study years, choices that affect and will affect their lives, their families, the future of our country. LSCF is a non-profit youth organization, registered in Latvia in 1993. Organization is lead by its National Board, and organized by 5-7 staff workers and many volunteers. At the moment, there are seven cities where LKSB is represented: Riga, Jelgava, Liepaja, Ventspils, Daugavpils, Rezekne and Valmiera.

University in my hometown. University is in the heart of the city. The teachers are friendly and willing to help you arrange things if needed.

Over all experience is good but i faced one issue in Liepaja university we can not get internships or practical work and also don't have labs to do high research so it is bad experience.

it's a good university, not so big campus still its good
