History
The MDC is named after the German-American Nobel Prize winner Max Delbrück.
The MDC was founded in 1992, based on institutes of the former Academy of Sciences of the GDR, with a mission of translating discoveries from molecular research into applications to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of major human diseases.
Education
With over 300 PhD students in several graduate programs, the MDC is helping to educate a new generation of scientists. In addition, the MDC is involved in the continued professional development of teachers and in the education and training of young people.
Research
Research at the MDC aims to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of health and disease, and translate those findings into medical practice. These core activities are pursued in more than 60 independent research groups across four main research areas.

Library services
The library is a specialized science library serving the staff of the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine. It collects, catalogues, and provides literature for the entire MDC community.
ICT services
Inside the Max Delbrück (MDC) Center the IT department is as the IT competence center responsible for the operation of the information technology. The IT department is a part of the infrastructre of the MDC and directly mandate the Board of Administration.
