Overview
The Graduate Certificate in Urban Design from The University of Western Australia aims to provide a ‘top-up’ qualification to professional practitioners and graduates of related fields or an introduction to Urban Design for graduates from unrelated fields.
Students graduating with the Certificate would be familiar with the basic characteristics of urban design but would not be understood by the market as ‘urban designers’.
The Graduate Certificate in Urban Design typically is comprised of these three units:
Forces that shape Cities
- In this unit students examine key factors that have shaped urban form throughout history including the economics, politics, culture and the arts.
Sustainability and Cities
- This unit defines the key sustainability challenges facing cities and outlines the suite of initiatives being implemented to manage the transition to sustainable urban development.
Urban Design Studio
- This unit introduces the key principles of urban design in a studio environment. Students can choose to enter at either semester 1 or semester 2 but must seek advice prior to enrolling from the AUDRC on structuring their studies.
