It provides preparation for the Institute of Biomedical Science Higher Specialist examination and Advanced Practice in Biomedical Science. You will also be well placed for careers in research or teaching or to pursue studies towards a PhD.

Modernising Scientific Careers

The School of Healthcare Science was the first in the UK to design and receive accreditation for the new Practitioner Training Programme Healthcare Science degrees commissioned by Higher Education England's Modernising Scientific Careers. The programme combines academic study and work-based training and is a professional qualification required to practice as a healthcare science practitioner in a number of areas.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: Upper Second Class

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to Upper Second Class on the UK Honour scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on the UK Honour scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

At least an upper second class UK Honours degree (or international equivalent) in biological or biomedical science is usually required. Alternatively you may be admitted with an equivalent professional qualification or significant relevant proven professional experience. Existing Fellows of the Institute of Biomedical Science are eligible for exemption from certain units of study. Students applying with HNC medical laboratory science plus 10 years' experience will be considered on an individual basis.

Funding

Manchester Met is making a limited number of Vice-Chancellor scholarships available, each to the value of £5,000 (2018/19). These scholarships are open to international students who enrol on a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate taught programme in September 2018 or January 2019.
