Overview
While tax accountants may primarily focus on preparing and submitting tax returns for individuals and businesses, you can also contribute to your clients' overall success with constructive guidance throughout the year.
With the Accounting program offered by the The University of Arizona, you qualify to assist clients with financial records, budget preparation, investment advice and more. Accountants who specialize in audits review accounting systems and practices to ensure clients remain in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Choose which track of study you would like to pursue.
Key Features
- Pursue one of two tracks—Audit or Tax—and gain in-depth training in financial accounting, auditing and/or taxation
- Students typically select their track (Audit or Tax) early in the program shortly after being admitted and choosing their courses with the department.
- Audit track students will cover advanced accounting, federal taxation, principles of auditing, audit simulation, audit information systems and even communication skills for the accounting professional—as well as several elective options ranging from Forensic & Investigative Accounting to Accounting for Not-for-profit Entities
- Tax track students will cover subjects including corporate taxation, technology for accountants, tax research, and taxation of real estate transactions—plus elective options such as business law, estates and trusts, federal tax policy, and state and local taxation
- In either track, you’ll prepare for the CPA exam and gain technical competency training essential to becoming a licensed CPA
