Overview
At Human Rights Law offered bt University of Nottingham you will be taught by experts who have advised governments, collaborated with organisations including the United Nations, and joined forces with NGOs in their human rights advocacy work. This practical application of academic knowledge allows you to see how human rights law can have a tangible impact.
The School of Law is home to the Human Rights Law Centre (HRLC), one of the world's most respected academic human rights institutions. The HRLC’s research and activities underpin the teaching and offer a range of opportunities for you to participate in the activities. These range from voluntary placements to paid summer internships. These experiences are designed to broaden your understanding of human rights research and practical work, while providing invaluable hands-on experience in a renowned academic centre.
The HRLC’s Director is Professor Aoife Nolan, who also acts as the President of the Council of Europe’s European Committee of Social Rights. Professor Dominic McGoldrick is the editor-in-chief of the Human Rights Law Review (the leading journal in the field).
Career opportunities:
The graduates go on to a wide range of careers. Many go into the legal profession or return to their previous legal careers with specialist knowledge and enhanced prospects. Others work in international organisations and NGOs. Some graduates further their academic career by progressing onto the PhD programme.
