Graduates will be qualified to become specialists and leading personnel in universities, research institutions, environmental and planning offices, local authorities and the relevant departments of banks, insurance companies and industrial enterprises.

The Master’s degree programme in Environmental Sciences offers majors in Atmosphere and Climate, Biogeochemistry and Pollutant Dynamics, Ecology and Evolution, Environmental Systems and Policy, Forest and Landscape Management and in Human Health, Nutrition and Environment. The major can be chosen regardless of the specialisation and of other elective subjects chosen in the Bachelor programme in Envoronmental Sciences ETHZ.

Prospective Master students are recommended to familiarise themselves with the requirements for their preferred major programme during the second year of their Bachelor’s studies.

The language of instruction for the Master’s degree is English.

GMAT admission requirements GMAT The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a test intended to assess certain analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in written English for use in admission to a graduate management program, such as an MBA. GMAT contains 4 sections - Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative and Verbal. The score has a range from 200 - 800.

English requirements

IELTS admission requirements IELTS The International English Language Test System (IELTS) tests your English-language proficiency on a scale of 1 – 9. The score refers to the combined average score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading).

PTE Academic admission requirements PTE Academic PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. The score refers to a total score which ranges between 10 and 90.

General requirements

  • To be eligible for admission to a Master's degree programme at ETH Zurich you need to have a high-quality Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 180 ECTS or an equivalent first academic degree from an internationally recognized university.
  • The degree must be in a discipline qualifying for the chosen Master's degree programme. Your previous studies must comply in quality, depth and breadth with the requirement profile of the Master's degree programme.
  • Candidates from Swiss Universities of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschulen) can apply if certain conditions are fulfilled.
