Overview

The MA in Anthropology at the University of British Columbia is based upon a combination of coursework, research and a thesis. Interdisciplinary contacts are encouraged, and links are maintained with departments and programs such as Asian Studies, the Institute of Asian Research, Linguistics, History, Geography, Sociology, and the Centre for Women's and Gender Studies.

Features

Full-time MA candidates typically complete their thesis by the end of the second year, and some complete into their third year. However, in special circumstances, students may take up to five years to complete their MA.

History of Anthropological Thought

Current Research in Anthropology

An advanced anthropological methods course in the appropriate areas of ethnographic, archaeological, or museological research

At least six credits of coursework outside their subdisciplinary specialty, with at least three credits of which must be in Anthropology

At least six additional credits of elective courses

A minimum of three references are required for application to graduate programs at UBC. References should be requested from individuals who are prepared to provide a report on your academic ability and qualifications.
