Overview
The Tourism Management MSc at the University of Pécs prepares graduates for strategic, analytical and management roles in tourism and hospitality. Offered in English by the Faculty of Business and Economics, this full-time programme comprises four semesters and 120 ECTS credits. It is designed for graduates in tourism and hospitality or related business disciplines who want to deepen their expertise and contribute to the development of tourism businesses and destinations.
The curriculum connects tourism policy and planning with responsible destination development, smart tourism and innovation. The students will explore how tourism organisations and destinations respond to technological change while considering environmental and social impacts. This approach encourages the students to evaluate development choices in relation to business objectives, visitor needs and the interests of local communities. Service quality assurance and process management help you link strategic objectives with the delivery of tourism services.
Tourism marketing is a substantial part of the programme. Studies in consumer behaviour, brand management, marketing analysis, product design and pricing prepare you to develop market-oriented tourism products and destination strategies. Digital marketing adds the tools to communicate and position destinations in a changing marketplace. Quantitative and qualitative research methods strengthen your ability to analyse evidence, investigate complex problems and make well-founded professional decisions.
The programme combines advanced theory with the development of practical management skills through interactive learning and independent study. Professional Portfolio Development and supervised Thesis Development support the students’ professional growth and independent research. The students can broaden their interests through 12 ECTS credits of general electives, with options including Tourism Marketing Communication, Circular Economy, ESG in Corporate Practice and Data-Driven Decision-Making. Intercultural Training and Business Language further support communication and cooperation in international professional settings.
Graduates can pursue careers in tourism and hospitality businesses, destination management organisations, tourism marketing and consultancy, or public and non-profit organisations involved in tourism policy and development. The programme develops the knowledge needed for specialist and project management roles and for progression towards leadership positions as professional experience grows. Its research training also provides a foundation for further study at doctoral level.
