Engineering Management at Durham University prepares graduates to lead complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects that drive innovation, foster collaboration, and enable responsible transformation across the sector.

This programme integrates technical depth with leadership capability, enabling engineers and researchers to manage complex systems, projects, and people effectively. You will develop knowledge, understanding, and skills to address challenges in the following core areas:

• Sustainable Engineering Management: How can sustainability underpin management and decision-making at both project and corporate levels? Can sustainability values and goals be achieved in environments with competing priorities?
• Strategy, Innovation and Design Management: How can creativity be fostered within project environments? How can innovation be integrated into the engineering business?
• Engineering Project Management: How can engineering projects be designed for success? How can projects be delivered to achieve the stakeholders’ expectations and goals on time and on budget with the expected quality? What happens when things go wrong?

• Engineering Data and Modelling: How can data and information support the planning, implementation, and closure phases of a complex project? How can engineering managers interpret and use complex data to inform decision-making?

We have strong links with industrial partners and our postgraduates have achieved rewarding and stimulating positions in bio, civil, mechanical, electronic, electrical, manufacturing, design, aeronautics and systems engineering. They work as consultants, technology analysts, and software developers and as entrepreneurs, and also gain prestigious positions in banking and finance.
