Key facts
- You will be taught by an experienced Design & Technology educator with extensive experience in secondary education (ages 11–18) and significant expertise in mentoring and teacher training. With your degree in a relevant subject area such as Product design, Engineering, Textiles, or a similar background, you will participate in a series of interactive, hands-on workshops that blend educational theory with practical classroom application. Topics may include inclusive curriculum planning, prototyping, key stage 3 and 4 assessments, CAD/CAM, Extra-curricular activities and managing a safe and engaging workshop environment.
- As part of the course, you will complete a certified Health & Safety training course delivered by a DATA (Design and Technology Association) consultant. This ensures you are fully equipped to work safely and effectively in practical classrooms. You will also gain an introduction to best practice in Food Technology and classroom management.
- You will be supported throughout by experienced mentors in our partner schools, developing into a reflective, research-informed, and confident teacher. Previous students have praised the course for its strong sense of support and community. You’ll also receive tailored career advice to help you secure your first teaching role. The PGCE Secondary Design and Technology (with QTS) programme is offered at University of Warwick.
