This course examines the interconnected nature of migration and development, focusing on how the movement of people contributes to economic, social, and political development, as seen in the growing significance of remittances, which now surpass official development aid in scale.

It also examines the ways development interventions aim to address the "root causes" of irregular migration, particularly from the poorest regions, and the effectiveness of such strategies. Through this analysis, students develop a nuanced understanding of migration as both a driver of development and a response to structural inequalities and crises.
