Overview
Social Work from Addis Ababa University, being a practice based profession and an academic discipline- recognizes that interconnected historical, socio-economic, cultural, spatial, political and personal factors serve as opportunities and /or barriers to human wellbeing and development.
Key facts
This being the case, the program equips students with advanced social work skills and knowledge. Students will develop an in-depth understanding of human behavior, social systems, the dynamics of power and privilege, social justice, human rights, collective responsibility and respect for diversity which are central to social work. The program strives to cultivate leaders who can embrace diverse perspectives, and engage in collaborative problemsolving approaches and ultimately contributing to the welling and empowerment of individuals, families and communities. Students will be offered the opportunity to choose from three concentration areas namely: 1) Children, Youth and Family; 2) Community and Social Development and 3) Healthcare Social Work.

General requirements
- Fulfill the prerequisite requirements set by the Addis Ababa University Office of the Registrar. Such requirements include passing the GAT examination
- Obtain Bachelor’s Degree (Undergraduate degree) in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Public Health, Nursing, Police Sciences (Crime Prevention and Investigation), Anthropology, Political Science, Economics, Law, Development and Gender Studies, Management, Agricultural Cooperatives and Theological Studies
- Have a minimum of 2.5 CGPA in the undergraduate degree
- Got prior work or voluntary experience in social services
- Pass entrance exam, which includes aptitude, attitudinal and personality tests and interviews, set by the School of Social Work
