Overview
Veterinary Biotechnology Sciences - Animal Health from Addis Ababa University program equips students with advanced knowledge and skills to apply cutting-edge biotechnology tools to address critical challenges in animal health and production, such as animal disease diagnostics and therapeutics, animal production and reproduction, genetic improvements, and biological-based therapeutic products design and development.
Key facts
Students will receive a foundational knowledge of cutting-edge biotechnology techniques, including molecular biology, genetic engineering, bioinformatics, multiomics technology, and immunology. These techniques can be applied to veterinary medicine, enabling disease diagnosis, the development of vaccines and therapeutics, improvement of animal breeding, and the enhancement of animal welfare.
Additionally, students will acquire hands-on experience in research and innovation through laboratory work, data analysis and scientific writing. Finally, they will also acquire essential skills for successful careers in academic research, feed, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, governmental agencies, and animal health organizations.

- Admission requirement for the program is based on Addis Ababa University’s rules and regulations governing graduate programs.
- The program is open to candidates with doctor of veterinary medicine, BVSc or BSc in veterinary sciences or Vet/medical laboratory technology, or BSc in biotechnology, animal sciences, biological sciences, life sciences or health-related disciplines. Candidates are required to pass the graduate admission test (GAT) and university entrance examination.
