Overview
Civil and Environmental Engineering - Dam and Hydropower Engineering from Addis Ababa University students will gain a comprehensive understanding of hydraulic structures, hydropower generation, and the environmental and social impacts of dam projects.

The program covers a range of topics, including: Dam engineering, Reservoir engineering, Hydropower systems, Hydraulic structures, Environmental impact assessment and Sediment management. Students will work closely with faculty mentors to develop their research proposals and conduct their studies. Similar to the other tracks, this program spans four semesters, with the first two semesters devoted to coursework and the final two semesters dedicated to research and thesis writing. Admission requirements for the program requires relevant bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Irrigation Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or an equivalent program.

General requirements
- Applicants must pass an entrance examination administered by the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (SCEE) at AAiT. A pass result in the Graduate Aptitude Test (GAT) administered by the university or an equivalent assessment.
- Two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references.
- The examination will assess the applicant's knowledge and competence in the core areas of civil, hydraulic, and water resources engineering.
- Applicants with relevant professional experience in the field of dam engineering or related areas may be given preference, subject to the discretion of the School Graduate Committee (SGC). Interview (optional): Approval by the SGC is required.
- The SGC reserves the right to request additional information or documentation from the applicants, if necessary.
