Description
There are many techniques of delivering anaesthetic, i.e. general anaesthesia, total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA), regional anaesthesia, monitored anaesthesia, critical care medicine, intraoperative and postoperative pain management of varying degree of complexity. The anaesthetic techniques for surgical procedures contributed to patient safety and outcome. The management of patients in the operation theatres, Post-Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and wards are safeguarded perioperatively by using advanced and sophisticated monitoring equipment to ensure safety and recovery during and after surgery. Besides this, a rapidly evolving changes in the way of patient management in the ICU, coupled with the amazing recent advances in the drug administrations and equipment and ventilation modes used for patients in ICU, has necessitated an increase in the number of anaesthesiologists in the country hence the Master of Anesthesiology and Critical Care from MARA Technological University might just be the solution for those who are interested.
The targeted ratio of anaesthesiologist to population for the year 2020 is 4 anaesthesiologists per 100,000 population. Hence, the demand for anaesthesiologists is high both in the public and private. Graduates from this programme are gazetted as clinical specialists after 6 months of graduation and are eligible for credentialing as anaesthesiologists in the National Specialist Register (NSR).

General requirements
- Medical degree recognized by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).
- Registered with MMC for a Temporary Practicing Certificate (TPC).
- Minimum 2 years of post-housemanship working experience at program entry.
- At least 3 months of clinical attachment with the Department of Anaesthesiology & Intensive Care.
- Pass the entrance examination, interview, or other assessments required by the Conjoint Board of Anaesthesiology & Critical Care.
- Obtain a financial guarantee or scholarship.
- English proficiency: TOEFL >750, IELTS >7.0, or equivalent international English competency test.
- Letter of Good Standing from the relevant medical authority.
