Pharmacology from Addis Ababa University curriculum combines coursework and thesis research projects to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for careers in academia, health institutions, the manufacturing industry, and drug regulatory sectors.

The training program begins with foundation-supportive courses followed by System Pharmacology core courses. As a science of drugs, this program provides students with different pharmacological methods and experimental models to help them strengthen their drug research capacity with designed courses in Drug Research Modules. In addition to the General Admission Requirement of AAU, a candidates with Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm), doctorate in medicine (MD), Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), doctor of dental Medicine (DDM), doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM), as well as BSc in Health officer program, Nursing, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology or Toxicology and Batchelor of science in life sciences such as Biology and Applied Biology could be admitted to this program, after the necessary screening by the Department.

General requirements

Proof of Bachelor’s study with a minimum cGPA of 2.50 and a minimum cGPA of 2.75 in a relevant major on a 4:00 scale is a prerequisite for applicants seeking admission to MA/MSc/MPhil/LLM programs.
Applicants should be able to take the Graduate Admission Test (GAT) of the AAU and get a passing mark. Alternatively, standardized tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, ACT, SAT, or LSAT and with the corresponding passing marks are acceptable.
Submit a letter of intent for joining the Master’s or the PhD program.
Applicants will submit two (2) letters of recommendation from former university instructors or professors.

Produce, as may be required, certificate of work experience related to the desired field of study.
