Clinical Laboratory Science - Laboratory Management and Quality Assurance Specialty from Addis Ababa University objective is to produce graduates capable of providing lectures on their expertise to undergraduate medical laboratory or other health sciences students at higher learning institutions.

Key facts

The students start their journey by taking general and supportive courses such as pedagogy, biostatistics and research methodology, laboratory management and quality assurance, advanced immunology, microbial genetics, bioinformatics and molecular techniques. The students are also expected to submit a graduating thesis with the help of well-accomplished advisors.

Furthermore, they are able to improve and manage the quality of regional and national reference laboratories plus laboratories in health centers and hospitals, support laboratory accreditation as per ISO standards, and contribute to the national laboratory diagnostic network and integrated quality disease surveillance (IDSR). In addition, graduates will be able to perform method validation and verification for newly established laboratory methods, advising on supply chain management of laboratory supplies and logistic systems, managing laboratory workforce, marketing, budgeting, healthcare management, devising appropriate laboratory quality management systems, developing laboratory policies, rules, and regulations, conducting risk management in diagnostic and research laboratories, consulting with regional and federal health ministries, facility design and equipment management, and various other responsibilities related to laboratory practices and research
