Overview
Clinical Laboratory Sciences - Clinical Chemistry from Addis Ababa University, students start their journey by taking general and supportive courses such as pedagogy, biostatistics and research methodology, laboratory management and quality assurance, advanced immunology, microbial genetics, bioinformatics and molecular techniques.
Key facts
The program comes with a clinical practicum attachment in hospitals and advanced research laboratories to showcase the clinical chemistry courses’ application in basic and advanced laboratories. The students are also expected to submit a graduating thesis with the help of well-accomplished advisors.
This program aims to produce clinical laboratory professionals capable of providing diagnostic laboratory services with clinical chemistry specialty, giving lectures on the subjects they have taken to undergraduate medical laboratory science students at higher learning institutions, serve as consultants/supervisors in improving and managing the quality of regional and national reference laboratories in addition to laboratories in health centers and hospitals, support laboratory accreditation as per ISO standards, write research proposals, conduct research project independently and prepare manuscripts for publication.
Furthermore, the graduates are capable of advising on supply chain management of laboratory supplies and logistic systems, managing laboratory workforce, marketing, budgeting, healthcare management, devising appropriate laboratory quality management systems, developing laboratory policies, rules, and regulations, conducting risk management in diagnostic and research laboratories, consulting with regional and federal health ministries, facility design and equipment management, and various other responsibilities related to laboratory practices and research.

General requirements
- Proof of Bachelor’s study with a minimum cGPA of 2.50 and a minimum cGPA of 2.75 in a relevant major on a 4:00 scale is a prerequisite for applicants seeking admission to MA/MSc/MPhil/LLM programs.
- Applicants should be able to take the Graduate Admission Test (GAT) of the AAU and get a passing mark. Alternatively, standardized tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, ACT, SAT, or LSAT and with the corresponding passing marks are acceptable.
- Submit a letter of intent for joining the Master’s or the PhD program.
- Applicants will submit two (2) letters of recommendation from former university instructors or professors.
- Produce, as may be required, certificate of work experience related to the desired field of study.
