Overview
The MSc in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) at the Open University of Cyprus is an interdisciplinary programme that explores how people interact with digital technologies and how these technologies can be designed to better serve human needs. Drawing on computer science, cognitive science, and human factors engineering, and incorporating tools and principles from artificial intelligence (AI) and data science, the programme equips students with the knowledge and practical skills required to design, evaluate, and implement digital solutions.
The programme welcomes graduates from both technical and non-technical backgrounds. Students with a background in computing gain opportunities for creativity and innovation across industry, government, and education, while those with a background in human behaviour (e.g., social or cognitive psychology, cognitive science) gain the training needed to apply their knowledge to the design of useful, usable digital technology.
Guided by policy priorities at both the national (Cyprus) and European level, the programme reflects the EU's emphasis on digital transformation and "Trustworthy AI" — ensuring that AI systems respect human values and human rights. In line with the EU's Coordinated Plan on AI, the programme trains graduates in user-centred information systems, preparing them to contribute to the development and evaluation of responsible, human-centred technologies.
