Overview

Through subjects in four systems: Design Science, Design Engineering, Design and Production, and Cultural and Social Design, students acquire and deepen their specialized knowledge and develop their ability to realize their sound design sensibilities, acoustic design to create a sonic environment adaptable to humans, the improvement of the quality of acoustic information, and the creation of art and culture related to sound. Through these activities, students acquire the ability to approach multiple aspects of design objects from the viewpoints of culture, environment, and information related to sound, and to pioneer new fields of design related to sound.

Career:

They are expected to play an active role in various companies related to sound, such as manufacturers of acoustic and communication equipment, electric appliances, musical instruments, etc., architectural acoustics and noise control-related, software and communication-related, and companies' research laboratories. Acoustic Design is offered by Kyushu University.

Programme Structure

Courses include:

Sound Culture

Students will learn about the characteristics and issues of sound culture by utilizing their knowledge and practical skills related to the history and culture of sound and music, work production, and expression theory and techniques.

Acoustic Environmental Engineering

Based on a foundation of mathematics and engineering, students will learn about the analysis, control, and evaluation of sound, the design of sound environments suitable for all people, and the proper processing and transmission of acoustic information.

Acoustic Informatics Science

Students will learn about human information processing from a scientific perspective, including the perceptual system and physiological mechanisms related to human audiovisual perception and communication through speech.

Applicants who have graduated from universities or colleges set forth in Article 83 of the School Education Act or are expected to graduate from such universities or colleges by March 31, 2027.

Applicants who have bachelor’s degrees awarded pursuant to the regulations of section 7, Article 104 of the School Education Act or are expected to be awarded bachelor’s degrees by March 31, 2027.
