Overview
The Medical Ultrasound program at Monash University focuses on developing research skills via an ultrasound research project. Following completion of the two foundation units (SON4000 and SON4010) students must be engaged in supervised clinical ultrasound training practice for a minimum of 3 days/week (or equivalent). It is the student's responsibility to secure their own clinical training placement.
Key facts
- The course resources are provided mainly on-line. The material is structured to guide the student through study material on a weekly schedule. Applicants will generally be graduates of a degree program in Radiography or equivalent.
- Applicants holding degrees in related disciplines (such as Medicine, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Radiation Therapy, Nuclear Medicine or other Health Sciences) are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Accreditation
- The Master and Graduate Diploma of Medical Ultrasound are both accredited by the Australian Sonographers Accreditation Registry.

- An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in radiography and medical imaging with at least a 60% average.
- A workplace supervised ultrasound clinical training placement
- An Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a related science or health sciences with at least a 60% average. The related degree must include the studies of "full-body" human anatomy and physiology. Applicants must also have passed physics at Year 12 or at tertiary level or complete an equivalent physics bridging course.
- A workplace supervised ultrasound clinical training placement.
