About

This  Advanced Materials programme at the University of Nottingham provides a broad and deep understanding of the processing, nature and properties of a range of engineering materials. Only by understanding these can materials be truly designed for purpose. The course integrates materials behaviour and materials processing relevant to a wide range of industrial sectors.

This course will introduce you to the core principles of the design, nature and processing of advanced materials over two semesters, alongside core modules in materials categorisation and the mechanisms of failure of materials. This will provide you with a depth of core knowledge and skills allowing you to make informed choices concerning applications, selection and design of advanced materials.

This course produces graduates who are able to think and function in an integrated manner across the areas of materials science and engineering.

It will provide you with specific skills suitable for a wide range of careers in UK and international organisations involved in materials and product development.

Students in the department have gone on to a variety of different careers, including civil engineers, engineering technicians, quality assurance and regulation officers and engineering professionals.

As well as offering you the chance to pursue a fulfilling career within industry and related areas, the MSc programmes offered by the department provide an excellent foundation for further research and a significant number of our students continue their studies to PhD level and beyond.

    C1 Advanced is a Cambridge English Qualification. It reports on the Cambridge English Scale between 142 and 210. You will receive a separate score for each of the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) and for Use of English. These five scores are averaged to give you an overall result for the exam. Universities and colleges may ask you to achieve a specific score, either overall or for a particular skill.

    Note: degree programmes and applications may require a more specific minimum score for admission.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: Lower Second Class

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to Lower Second Class on the UK Honour scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on the UK Honour scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
