Overview
The Master's Degree in Management and Enhancement of the Territory at Sapienza University of Rome is divided into two curricula (application-project and theory-didactic), allowing the achievement of the 24 credits that constitute the entry requirements for teaching competitions (Ministerial Decree 616/2017), also offering opportunities for internships and traineeships with affiliated organizations and companies, in Italy and abroad (Açcão Para O Desenvolvimento NGO, Archive of the Jewish Community of Rome, Italian Association of Geography Teachers, ENEA, Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Legambiente, Appia Antica Regional Park, etc.).
Educational objectives
The Master's Degree in Land Management and Development aims to train highly specialized professionals capable of assessing the local characteristics of the territory and providing a key reference point for defining indigenously based local development processes. To this end, the Master's Degree has a common structure for the first year and is then divided into two curricula (theoretical-didactic and applied-design). During the first year, students will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of survey techniques, research production, and the epistemological evolution of geographical disciplines, with an openness to further specialization in theory and teaching, as well as in the design dimension of landscape components.
In the theoretical-didactic curriculum, in accordance with current legislation, students will develop the ability to analyze and interpret contexts, with particular attention to the acquisition of skills related to teaching and scientific dissemination, for the design and implementation of best practices oriented towards interculturality.
In the applied-design curriculum, students will develop applied skills in the use of geographic research tools, including through the use of GIS (Geographical Information System); develop advanced skills in the analysis, interpretation, and representation of the territory; be able to design a local development plan based on indigenous traditions that aims to enhance the environmental and social characteristics of the area under study; and acquire advanced skills in managing research activities and implementing operational programs.
