Purpose

The purpose of the Master of Philosophy in Children's Literature (Research) from University of Johannesburg is to enable students to develop high levels of specialized knowledge and expertise in conducting research in a specified discipline or field, using advanced problem-solving skills and critical, reflective thinking, as well as the ability to report on research conducted in ways appropriate to the relevant academic and disciplinary discourses. The student will report the findings in a manner that meets the accepted criteria and ethical principles of the profession. Students will contribute to the existing body of knowledge in the application of advanced theoretical or applied knowledge to develop and advance the study and practices in the field of specialization

Prospective candidates will have obtained a BEd (Hons).

Prospective candidates will have obtained a suitable four-year professional bachelor’s degree plus a teachers’ diploma/ teaching qualification and work experience in the proposed field of specialisation. The Education knowledge of such candidates will be assessed by the Head of Department and the subject expert in the proposed field specialisation and a reading programme may be prescribed prior to following registration.
