Overview

This Master’s degree in Computer Networking at University of Minho curriculum structure was designed in accordance with the guidelines of the Bologna Declaration, particularly regarding weekly workload and number of academic years. The following principles guided the definition of the curriculum:a) a maximum of 20 hours of weekly classes, in order to promote independent student work;b) a strong integrative practical component, reflected in laboratory-based or project-based course units;c) tutorial supervision of student groups;d) the adoption of monitoring and assessment methodologies that foster student motivation.The curriculum structure also follows these principles:a) 40 weeks of academic work per year, including 30 weeks of contact hours;b) 1 ECTS credit = 28 hours of student work;c) tutorial supervision of student groups in project-based units.

Key learning outcomes

The organisation of the study cycle prioritises the acquisition of technical and scientific competencies in the following areas:

1. Development of intellectual and cognitive abilities, particularly analytical, synthetic, critical, communicative, and innovative skills in the field of Computer Communications;

2. Development of teamwork skills, especially in identifying, analysing, discussing, and solving problems arising from professional practice in this area;

3. Acquisition of specialised competencies in various aspects of fixed and mobile communication network engineering, including:3.1. advanced knowledge of current and emerging technologies and protocols in fixed and mobile network environments;3.2. ability to analyse, plan, implement, and develop computer networks and telecommunications services;3.3. ability to identify and assess challenges and directions for the development of next-generation networks and services;

4. Development of the ability to participate in scientific research activities.
