Overview
The master's programme in Advanced Computing at University of Minho is designed for students with relevant academic training and/or professionalexperience in:
- Informatics,
- computer science
- science and engineering,
who have as a career goal the application of computational methods to solve scientific and engineering problems.
The skills developed throughout the course will be especially valued in multidisciplinary research and development teams that do not have the necessary skills to take a holistic view of the computing system. These skills will undoubtedly be an asset for students on the master's programme in advanced computing and will differentiate them in the market.
Key learning outcomes
1. Acquire knowledge in advanced computer architectures for HPC, parallel and distributed programming.
2. Acquire knowledge of cluster and supercomputer administration systems, security, management, storage and data processing in HPC systems.
3. Understand the scientific foundations of computing in specific areas of science and engineering.
4. Develop skills in critically analysing problems and computational models for solving these problems.
5. Develop software and scientific simulation applications as well as code optimisation and performance analysis.
6. Develop and apply scientific visualisation techniques and skills for effectively communicating scientific results.
7. Integrate scientific and computational knowledge in the development of advanced computational methods.
